Rico Trails Alliance (RTA), in partnership with Patagonia Telluride, is pleased to host the film “Fire Lines” on June 11 at the Enterprise Bar & Grill in Rico, Colorado.
2024 Impact
In 2024, RTA made significant strides in organizational development and trail infrastructure. Grant awards from The Rico Center and Telluride Foundation enabled the creation of RTA’s first three-year strategic plan and the development of other essential tools.
RTA Launches New Membership Campaign
RTA is debuting a brand new membership program! Please join us for a membership kickoff happy hour at the Garden Bar in Rico next Thursday evening, August 10th.
Request for Mapping & Trail Maintenance Proposals: Due April 29
RTA is requesting proposals for mapping and overseeing trail maintenance/repair to sections of Wildcat Trail, Burnett Creek Trail, and Horse Creek Trail in the San Juan National Forest near Rico, Colorado.

As the snow melts, we are reminded that summer is right around the corner. But as we look ahead, lets also reflect on the successful year RTA had in 2021 thanks to the hard work of our volunteers and contractors. 2022 will be another busy year for RTA!

End of 2020: RTA Reflects on Year's Accomplishments
Rico Trails Alliance (RTA) was founded in 2017 to promote local and regional trail systems in and around Rico, Colorado, with a focus on access, development, and use of non-motorized trails. As the snow starts to fall and the snowbike groomer is once again pulled out for the winter season, it’s a great time to reflect on RTA’s 2020 accomplishments.
RTA requests public comment on the USFS Revised Rico Trails Project Environmental Analysis
Rico Trails Alliance (RTA) has been working with the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) on the Rico Trails Project. The project consists of four multi-use trail projects (three non-motorized trail projects in the Rico area and one motorized trail connector between Stoner and Taylor mesas).
RTA Rico Mountain Bike Flow Trails and Skills Park
RTA recently received preliminary approval in May from the Town of Rico to design and build a mountain bike flow trails and skills park on Town of Rico land above the Deadwood 4×4 road.
USFS Releases Draft Environmental Assessment for the Rico Trails Project
For the past two years, RTA has been working with the USFS Dolores Ranger district to improve and maintain non-motorized trails and address recreation needs in the Rico Area. Out of these discussions, the Forest Service scoped The Rico Trails Project.

We Need Your Support: Public Comment Period on USFS Trail Projects
The trail projects we’ve been working on with the USFS are out for public comment until October 7! The 3 non-motorized trail projects are “packaged” with a motorized connector trail.

The Rico Trails Alliance (RTA) would like to extend a massive shout out to everyone who attended and supported our 3rd annual summer fundraiser in August! This collaborative event has blossomed into a wonderful community celebration of Rico’s burgeoning regional trail system and we are so grateful to everyone that came out to support RTA!
RTA Joins in Priest Gulch Trail Work Day
RTA participated in the June 8th Priest Gulch trail work day hosted by the USFS. Together with members of the San Juan Trail Riders and Mancos Trails Group, we were refreshed on safety, trail clearing protocol, and lots of techniques.
Public Bike Repair Station Installed in Rico!
RTA installed a public bike repair station in front of the Rico Historical Museum at 15 S. Glasgow (Colorado Highway 145). Look for the bright blue building on the west side of the main drag in Rico!
Volunteer Trail Work Day - Salt Creek Clean-Up Report
The June 9th Salt Creek Trail cleanup day hosted by the Rico Trails Alliance was a great success!
Turnout was excellent with seventeen volunteers, including two kids as well as Mike Contillo, who recently completed USFS chainsaw training.
