At the February 2021 RTA Board of Directors Meeting the Board elected two new Board members: Jim Ostrem and Jordan Carr.
Jim Ostrem and his wife bought a house in Rico in January, 2011 and love having a place to escape to when it starts getting hot in Tucson. He has spent summers in the Dolores river valley since high school when his parents bought 40 acres near Priest Gulch. He is more of a road biker than a mountain biker, but is trying to develop his bike handling skills and is getting more comfortable on some of the awesome single-track around Rico. One of Jim’s favorite trails is hiking up Deadwood gulch into the basin between Dolores Mountain, Whitecap and Blackhawk. Other than that, he spends a lot of time in the garden trying to fit what he can into Rico’s incredibly short growing season (73 frost free days in 2020). Jim would like to see more trails developed for beginner/intermediate cyclists and is a strong advocate of developing trails like the RGS grade south of Rico for less experienced riders that find the steep and rocky grades in this area too difficult and intimidating.
Jordan Carr recently moved to Rico after 7 years of transient life while he traveled for work in the bike industry and as a trails professional. He and his girlfriend, Teal, fell in love with Rico many years ago and it has been a dream come true for them to call Rico home. He spends most of his time exploring on two wheels but also loves bipedal travel, especially if he’s mushroom hunting or scouting new trails. His favorite local trails include Burnett Creek, Circle Trail, and Calico (and he’s probably crazy enough to do them all in one day!).
We are thrilled to have Jim and Jordan on board and look forward to their contributions!s
